Leon Bryan Wins 2008 Season Opener at Kil-Kare Dragway!  

            Kil-Kare Dragway opened the gates today for the first drag race of 2008. Early morning weather conditions tried to hamper the day’s events, however the sun would shine over the quarter mile at Kil-Kare.

            In Super Pro Eights, it would be Josh Morgan would face Ralph Barnhart. Morgan would dial a 5.07 to the 4.98 of Barnhart. At the tree Barnhart would catch the advantage with a .513. at the beams it would be Barnhart for the win with a 5.001. Next pair up was Christy Morgan-Back racing Leon Bryan. Christy would dial a 4.87 on the dragster to the 6.48 on Leon ’s corvette. The reaction time advantage would fall to Leon , with a .513, coupled with a 6.497 run for the win. James Emrick got the Bye run for the round. Following the single run would be Dave Caplinger against Nathan Baker.  Baker would pull away a .499 giving Doug the win but they both ran out the length, Caplinger running a 6.474. Next pair to pull in at the line was former Pro Bike racer Glen Lakins against Todd Filson. Lakins would dial a 6.26 to the 4.87 of Filson. Filson got away better with a .522 at the tree, at the finish the win light went to Filson with a 4.898 run. Stephanie Beyer would pull up next to Billy Back for the next run. Stephanie would dial her roadster to a 5.41 to the 4.78 on Billy’s Dragster. Stephanie would have the better light, a .514, running out the back door for a double breakout win with a 5.403 to the 4.761 of Back. In the final pair for the round, it would be Jason Farquer in his new dragster against Jerry Dunkle. Farquer would dial a 5.36 to the 4.88 of Dunkle. The tree was better for Dunkel with a .536, however Farquer would make the pass to take the win with a 5.372.

            In the quarter Finals it would be Leon Bryan on the Bye run to start the round.  Next up would be Farquer to race Barnhart. At the delay boxes it was a 5.37 for Farquer and a 4.99 for Barnhart. At the tree Barnhart would take away with a .497 red. Farquer would continue after a 5.399 run. Stephanie Beyer would face James Emrick in the next pair. Beyer dialed a 5.40 to the 6.40 of Emrick. Emrick would also pull away with a red,  that would move Beyer on to the next round. The last pair for the round would be Dave Caplinger against Todd Filson. Caplinger would dial a 6.46 to the 4.87 of Filson.  Reaction time difference was only .0027, and the only thing closer was the margin at the finish line, it would be Caplinger with a 6.466 for the win.

            In the semifinals it was Beyer vs. Farquer. Beyer would dial in with a 5.38 to the 5.36 of Farquer. Farquer would strap on a .508 at the tree, along with a 6.492 for the win. The next pair up would be Leon Bryan against Dave Caplinger to se who would race Farquer in the finals. The Tree was almost knocked down when both drivers ht .50 lights, but it would be Caplinger just a bit better.  Caplinger couldn’t hold on which moved Leon on to the finals.

            In the finals Leon pulled up with a 6.48 dial, Jason Farquer would dial in at a 5.37. Leon would get the advantage, with a .514, along with a 6.491 for the win.

 

            In Pro quarterfinals it was Mike Glanc against James Sanders. Glanc dialed an 11.88 to the 10.90 of Sanders. The tree was more kind to Glanc with a .519, at the finish line it would be Glanc with an 11.887 for the win. Up next would be defending Pro Champion Gwayne Honeycutt vs. Boomer Ellison. At the starting line Gwayne dialed a 10.16 to the 11.22 for Boomer. Boomer would pull away with a .492 red moving Honeycutt to the next round. Robert Stevens  faced Rich Wilson in the next round. Stevens dialed an 11.39 to the 10.17 of Wilson . Wilson would have the better bulb with a .511 and that along with a 10.185 for the win. Next pairing was Dave Baker against Rob Nixon. Baker dialing in at a 10.08 to the 10.24 of Nixon.  At the starting line the reaction time difference was only .002 seconds. Nixon ran the length with a 10.264 to get the win. Up next was Dave Caplinger against Ed Beyer. Caplinger dialed an 11.51 to the 10.43 of Beyer.  Caplinger would get the better reaction time with a .522 along with an 11.543 for the win.  Lonnie Lindsey and Mark Griffith were the last pair for the round. Lindsey would get the head start dialing in a 10.55 leaving Griffith to dial a 9.88 to cover the distance. When the tree dropped, it would be Lindsey would have the better reaction time a .537 along with a 10.592 run to beat a breaking out Mark Griffith.

            In the quarterfinal round it would be Caplinger would face Lindsey  to move on to the semis. Caplinger dialing 11.52 to Lindsey’s 10.56. At the tree Caplinger cut a .520 reaction and put it with his 11.529 run for a win light. Nixon and Wilson were up in the second pairing, Nixon’s Cuda dialed 10.23 to the 10.17 on the S10 of Wilson. Nixon was right on with a .507 reaction, and ran a 10.28 to beat a breaking out Wilson . In the last pair for the round it would be Honeycutt and Glanc. Honeycutt would pull away just with a .498 red and that moved Glanc on to the next round.

            Semi Final action saw Caplinger dialing an 11.52 and Glanc dialing 11.84. At the tree the advantage went to Glanc with a .510, but it would be Caplinger with a double breakout win running an 11.514 to Glanc’s 11.828. Rob Nixon had the bye run into the finals to face Caplinger.

            In the Finals it was Nixon dialing a 10.21 to the 11.52 on Caplinger’s machine. At the starting line Caplinger would be better off, with a .525 light, along with an 11.544 to take the win in Pro.

            Sportsman Class saw Mike Collier against Terry Knight. Colliers 17.45 to Knight’s 16.78 would make for a good pairing. At the tree Collier cut  a .521 for the advantage, however Knight was able to cover the distance with a 16.943 to take the win. Up next was Doug Caplinger against Carl Thomas. Caplinger on double duty from the Pro bracket dialed a 12.18 and Thomas a 13.41. Carl would chop down the tree with a .506, but mechanical problems in Thomas’ car moved Caplinger to the next round. Tom Jones dialed a 14.24 against Ronnie King with a 12.73 dial. Jones cut  .541 for the advantage, and that will help him along with a 14.271 for the win light. Next was Cory Litchfield an Brian Emory. Litchfield would dial a 13.45 to the 15.90 of Emory. Litchfield had the better light with .582, however it would be Emory getting the win light with a 16.105 for the win. Mike Sturgill faced off with Erica Dingos, Sturgill dialed a 14.91 to the 15.71 of Dingos. Sturgill would get a better light with a .559 and he was able to hold off Dingos at the finish line by running a 15.192. The next pair was Howard Ledford and Jesse Salyers. Ledford dialed a 13.24 to the 16.70 of Salyers.  At the tree Salyers would have a better reaction with a .577. The  pair reached the finish line, with a win light for Ledford, covering the gap with a 13.270. The final pair for the round was Steve Collier against Bryant Shaw. Collier dialed a 16.59 to the 16.00 of Shaw. Collier would receive the advantage at the tree with a .550 light, along with a 16.754 run.

            In the Semis it would be Jones against Emory. Jones dialed a 14.25 to the 15.88 of Emory. Emory had the better of the two lights with a .603. Jones tried to cover the distance, however Emory would hold him off to take the win with a 15.941. Mike Sturgill paired up next with Terry Knight. Sturgill dialed a 14.91 to the 16.77 of Knight. Reaction times would show Sturgill with a better bulb, a .528, running 15.000 for the win light. Howard Ledford had the bye run into the semis. The last pair for the round was Steve Collier and Doug Caplinger. Collier  dialed a 16.59 to the 12.18 of Caplinger. Caplinger would receive the better light, a .561. Collier was trying to hold off Caplinger at the finish line, however, Caplinger would run a 12.189 for the win.

            In the semis it would be Sturgill facing Ledford. Sturgill dialed a 15.03 to the 13.34 to of Ledford. At the tree Sturgill went a .492 red light, moving Ledford to the finals. In the next pair it would be Emory and Caplinger at the line. Emory dialed a 15.88 to the 12.18 of Caplinger. Emory would pull a red light .490 moving Caplinger to face Ledford in the Finals.

            Final round action went with Ledford dialing a 13.34 to the 12.18 of Caplinger. The tree advantage went to Ledford, with a .525 light, Caplinger tried to cover the distance, and beat Ledford, only to breakout running a 13.13 on a 12.18 dial. That would give the win to Ledford after running a 13.344.

            In Pro Bike Christopher Dewitt dialed a 10.65 to the 10.80 dialed by Brad Thompson.  Thompson would red light with a .486 moving Dewitt into the quarters. Up next Perry Dog Sowers faced Jeremy England. Sowers dialed a 9.15 to the 10.15 of England .    Sowers had the better light a .530 but it would be England grabbing the win light on the finish line with a 10.174.  Up next would b Rick Haupt and Homeboy England . Haupt would dial a 9.28 to the 9.74 of the elder England .  England would pull the red light out with a .490 moving Haupt to the next round.  Steve Withem was up next to race Roger Wilhelm. Wilhelm dialed a 9.49 to the 10.26 of Withem.  Withem would experience difficulties, moving Wilhelm to the next round. The next riders at the line was Michael Nugent vs. Thad Neeld. Nugent dialed a 10.31 to the 9.49 of Neeld. There was only .0019 difference at the tree, at the finish line it would be a 9.528 for the win.  Kevin Hoskins received the bye run into the semis.

            In the quarterfinals round, it would be Wilhelm vs. Dewitt. Wilhelm dialed a 9.83 to the 10.40 of Dewitt.  Wilhelm had the reaction time with a .566, along with a 10.197 for the win light. Next pair was Kevin Hoskins against Jeremy England. Hoskins dialed a 9.18 to the 10.15 of England . England chopped down the tree with a .5001 light, which helped him to run the length in 10.194 holding off Hoskins. Thad Neeld faced Rick Haupt in the last pair of the round. Neeld dialed a 9.45 to the 9.25 of Haupt.  Neeld would have the better light, but Haupt had the better run, winning with a 9.295.

            In the Semifinals it was Haupt against Wilhelm. Haupt dialed a 9.25 and Wilhelm to a 9.85.  Haupt would leave early and get the red light, moving Wilhelm to the finals. Jeremy England had the bye to the Finals.

            In the final round, Wilhelm dialed a 9.86 to the 10.17 of England , but England would pull the red light giving the win to Wilhelm.

In the 8-9 Yrs Olds, Michael Roberts faced Kyle Beavers in the finals. Roberts dialed a 13.05 to the 13.11 of Beavers. Beavers would get the starting line advantage and held it for the distance with a 13.3000 for the win.

                 In the 10-12 category was Savanna Stultz to face Jerry Raise. Stultz dialed a 12.40 to the 10.34 of Raise. At the tree red light would show for Raise moving Stultz to the Finals.  Next Pair to stage was Maggie Turley to face Edmund Ellison. Turley dialed a 9.10 to the 8.90 of Ellison. Turley had the better light with a .568, but Ellison had the better pass with an 8.949 for the win.

In the Finals Ellison would dial an 8.90 to the 12.45 of Stultz. Stultz was able to cut a .617 light for the advantage, and ran a 12.548 for the win in the age group.

In the 13 & up group Melanie Rase faced Shawn Pitts. Rase dialed an 8.14 to the 7.90 of Pitts. Rase left early to move Pitts to the finals. Next pair was Tyler Vance vs. Billy Sellman, with both driving a 7.90 for a good heads up race. Vance broke out with a 7.898 run giving the win to Billy Sellman moving him to the next round.

In the Finals it would be Pitts dialing 7.90 to the 7.93 of Sellman. Pitts would go red and Sellman would take the win.
