by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. - The modifieds, sport stocks. and compacts were part of the
program Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway which saw Tyler Nuckles claim
the modified feature with the sport stock going to Ron Lewis and Joe
Hoelscher claimed the compact main.
Hitting the track first was the Muffler brothers of Xenia Modifieds
for their thirty lap feature which saw Joe Jennings and Caleb Reschar
sitting in the front row to face starter Mike Stapleton's green flag.
Jennings took the lead with Jerry Stapleton moving into second while
fifth place starter Derek Barnette advanced to drop Rescher to fourth.
Barnette stole the lead on lap four as last row starter and fast timer
Tyler Nuckles was really on the move. Nuckles was second by lap eight
and started to work the outside of Barnette. Second fast timer Dick
Dunlevy pulled alongside of third place running Stapleton as Nuckles
surged ahead of Barnette on lap fifteen.
Nuckles uncle, Dick Dunlevy got around Stapleton and then targeted
Barnette only to spin on lap 19 putting Dunlevy in fourth as Jason
Mahaffey was sent to the tail. Nuckles was looking for his first
Kil-Kare win as the green unfoiled on the restart and pulled away from
the field. Dunlevy again went to work on Barnette as he tried to catch
the third place runner as Barnette kept shaking him off.
With five laps to go Nuckles had a straightaway lead and with the
checker in sight it was he and his race Shop machine picking up the win
followed by Stapleton, Barnette, Dunlevy and Reschar.
John Dunlap and Jeff Marsh led the sport stocks to the green with
Dunlap in front while the field battled for positions with Richard
Gleason taking third only to give it up to fifth place starter Ron Lewis
who then passed second place Marsh. Fast timer Travis Digges then took
second as Lewis had passed Dunlap for the lead. James Harding was on the
move as he passed Dunlap for third but the two front runners were nearly
a third of a lap ahead but Harding got a break as Gleason spun on turn
four which bunched up the field.
Leader Lewis and Digges now had a serious threat behind them with hard
running Harding in third who was sizeing up the two front cars. Harding
went to work on Digges as he rode on his rear bumper to no avail as the
checker waved on Lewis and his Roger's Auto Repair for the fourth time
this year. Digges was second with Harding third with Dunlap and John
Haney rounding out the top five.
The final feature for the Kil-Kare regulars was the compacts for their
twenty lap feature which had
Brian Rauch and Davey Shaw in the front row. Rauch shot into the lead
as Dave Sagers took second followed by Joe Hoelscher who took second and
then went after leader Rauch. Sagers was not giving up easily as he
tried to move back up on the inside of Hoelscher. Hoelscher stole the
lead on the backstretch on lap six as he set his sights on win number
two. Rauch held on to second with Sagers third but fast timer Bo
Hoelscher was about to change thirngs as he tried the outside of Sagers
to take third and then passed Rauch on the outside for second. With five
to go Joe Hoelscher held the lead but Rauch rebounded to claim second
but again Bo took that spot. When the checker waved it was Joe Hoelscher
the winner with his son Bo second followed by Sagers, Troy Patterson,
and Davey Shaw.
