Alsip Scores Third Win at Kil-Kare
Xenia, OH. (6/12) - A large crowd showed up at
Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night for the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series events and the popular trailer
race.
In the regular racing action Justin Alsip, Jack
Jones, Shawn Stansell, Cole Williams, and Ronald
Stagers captured feature events.
the late models were first on the program for
their 30 lap feature with Justin lsip and Sam
Heckman, both previous winners leading the field to
the green only to have a false start. On the second
attempt Heckman took the lead but Alsip came right
back up on the inside as they raced side by side.
Bobby Justus and Ricky Bates trailed the two front
runners with previous weeks winner Justus taking
second as Alsip took the lead.
Lap five saw the caution come out that saw Jamie
Sites and Rick Buehl head to the pits. Alsip held
the lead on the restart as Heckman reclaimed second
only to see the caution reappear again as Shawn
Sparkman spun on turn two. Alsip again continued to
lead as back in the pack Scott Drake and Don
Mahaffey battled for sixth as they swapped spots. At
the halfway it was Alsip with a decent lead over
Heckman, Justus, Bates and Virgil Powell and again
the yellow flew as Jeff Marsh and Shawn Sparkman
spun.
With Alsip setting sail again the battle was
between Mahaffey and Drake as Sloan Henderson was
riding the tail of Powell but unfortunately contact
was made and Powell spun on turn three and was out
with a broken rearend. It was the Drake and Mahaffey
show again as Drake surged just ahead of Mahaffey on
the restart as they came upon a lapped car going
into turn one with Ricky Bates spinning into the
wall resulting in damage to the right rear which put
him out.
Alsip certainly had his sights on winning as he
pulled away from second place running Heckman as
Drake was working on Justus for third, Drake went to
the outside as the laps wound down. Alsip of
Germantown in his Charlie's A-1 Auto Service
sponsored machine racked up his third feature win of
the year as Heckman, Justus, Drake, and Mahaffey
trailed at the checker.
Leading the feature field in the Muffler Brothers
of Xenia modifieds was Jack Jones and Derek Barnette
with Jones jumping into the lead only to see the
caution come out as two cars spun just after the
green and fast timer Dick Dunlevy darting to the
pits resulting in a complete restart. And again the
caution came out just after the green as three cars
spun on turn one and another restart was again
needed. For the third time the green waved after
another false start with Jones taking the lead as
Mike Carroll darted into second with Barnette third
followed by Jerry Stapleton and Mike South Jr. and
again a yellow as Jamie Brenneman spun on turn four.
Jones held the lead with Greg Stapleton trying to
pass South for fifth. Stapleton made his pass good
on lap ten and then went after his uncle Jerry
Stapleton Meanwhile Mike Carroll was closing in on
leader Jones as he tried the outside only to be
shaken off. Back in the pack Jason Mahaffey was
challenging South for sixth as the caution came out
on lap fifteen when Caleb Reschar spun on turn
three. The first five cars ran bumper to bumper
after the restart Greg Stapleton moved to the
outside of Jerry but Jerry held on to his spot.
Carroll again went to work on Jones as he sized him
up, looking for a way to pass as Barnette rode up on
Carroll's bumper. At the checker it was Jones of
Beavercreek in his Automotive Machine Shop sponsored
car claiming his third win of the year. Second was
Mike Carroll followed by Derek Barnette, Jerry
Stapleton and Greg Stapleton.
The sport stocks faced twenty laps of action in
their feature with Mike South Sr., and Ray Muncy
leading the pack with the lead going to South as
Muncy pulled along side of South with Travis Digges
and Shawn Stansell riding side by side. Veteran
South stayed in front as the cars went single file
as fast timer Stansell slid under Digges but Digges
shook him off but again here came Stansell on the
inside as they ran side by side. South had his hands
full as Muncy was right on his rear bumper but here
came Stansell on the outside of Muncy to try for
second for a three car battle for the lead with
Digges right with them. A great race it was as
Stansell surged ahead of South to take the lead and
started to pull away leading South and Muncy to
battle for second as Ron Lewis and Jeff Marsh moved
up on the leaders. Muncy did get around South with
Lewis taking fourth but Digges reclaimed his spot as
the checker flew with Stansell of Kettering in his
Rogers Auto Repair claiming his third feature of the
season. Muncy was second followed by Mike South Sr.,
Ron Lewis, and Travis Digges.
Jacob Wenrick took the lead on the start of the
IKO mini cups then Travis Page in front with Wenrick
running second with Courtney Hannah running third
only to be challenged by Cole Williams who made the
pass and then moved into second as he set sail for
leader Page. Fast timer Williams was closing the gap
on leader Page each lap as he moved up on Page's
rear bumper with four laps to go and took the lead
on the backstretch but Page bounced back to steal
the lead again but Williams was back in front as
Page tried to regain the lead but Williams stayed in
front as the caution came out on lap twenty three
when Hannah was spun on turn four. Williams took the
win in his Rite Way sponsored machine followed by
Travis Page, Courtney Hannah, Jacob Wenrick, and
Matthew Lorance.
Amber Sites jumped into the lead at the drop of
the green in the compact feature leaving Rodney
Terry and Ron Sagers to battle for second but the
action was slowed on lap two when Davey Shaw spun on
the backstretch. Sites had the lead on the restart
as Sagers pulled alongside on the outside as they
raced side by side lap after lap with Sagers
slightly ahead as they still raced door to door. Joe
Hoelscher moved into third with fast timer Brian
Lynch into fourth with Dave Sagers fifth. Ron Sagers
finally took the lead for good as Sites had her
hands full holding off third place running Joe
Hoescher with Lynch on Hoelschers bumper. Ron Sagers
of Xenia in his Valvoline Instant Oil Change machine
claimed his fifth win of the year to earn the $100
first place money. Amber Sites did a great job to
finish second just ahead of Joe Hoelscher and Bryan
Lynch with Dave Sagers fifth.
Thirteen vehicles with various trailers started
the wild figure-8 trailer race of destruction with
boats and trailers flying every where with David
Bronson taking the win.
