Xenia, OH (5/14) - Members of the Dayton Auto Racing Fan club enjoyed a free night of racing at Kil-Kare Speedway Friday which saw Don Mahaffey, Ryan Fleming, Bradley Stiffler, James Harding, Mahaffey    claim feature wins.
In the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sonic Drive-In late models it was like old times with former champs Gary Estes and Sam heckman leading the field to the green for the start of their thirty lap feature.
Heckman surged slightly ahead but Estes rebouned as they continued side by side while Mike Stacu and  Sloan Henderson did likewise. In the blink of an eye the situation changed as Mike Stacy and Don Mahaffey found themselves running one and two and then the battle was between the two teammates. Fast timer Mahaffey stole the lead on lap ten and then said goodby to Stacy.
Henderson crept up on Stacy as farther back in the field Heckman and Estes ran fourth and fifth. Mahaffey continued to put some distance on the field as the laps wound down and Mahaffey started to lap cars with six laps to go as he put Russ Bobb and Jeff Marsh a lap down. With two laps to go the only caution flew when Jack Jones spun on the frontstretch gining Stacy to move up on the bumper of Mahaffey for the restart. At the checker it was Mahaffey and his Oakley blacktop special recording his third straight feature win. the other Oakley Blacktop car of Stacy was second with third going to Sloan Henderson followed by Sam Heckman and Gary Estes.
Fifteen year old Ryan Fleming and Ralph Harrod led the pack to the green in the modified main with rookie Fleming taking the lead over Jason Mahaffey. Meanwhile last weeks winner Bill Burba had advanced to fourth and was chasing down third place running Harrod. Further back in the pack relatives Greg Stapleton and Jerry Stapleton battled for seventh with Greg pulling ahead to move up on the field as the caution flew as Brian Brewer spun on turn two.
Now the former quarter-midget driver Fleming had the pressure of seasoned Mahaffey on him at the restart but again the yellow flew with eleven laps completed when Austin Troyer spun on turn four. Fleming got a jump on the restart and pulled away from Mahaffey. At the halfway it was Fleming, Mahaffey, Harrod, burba, and Derek Weatherhead. Mahaffey poured the power to his Paul Storer machine and closed the door on Fleming but Fleming held the front spot. Again Mahaffey closed in on Fleming as fast timer Greg Stapleton moved into third. Fleming did a good job in lapped traffic as Mahaffey again tried on the outside with two laps to go only to spin on turn two with Mahaffey and Greg Stapleton sent to the tail.
Now Fleming had Bill Burba to contend with on the restart but he held off for the win in the Muffler Brothers of Xenia special to become the youngest driver to win a modified feature at Kil-Kare. Bill Burba was second followed by Ralph Harrod, Jack Jones, Derek Weatherhead.
Matthew Lorance and Trey Craig paced the IKO mini cup cars to the green with Lorance out front followed by fast timer Bradley Stiffler as Stiffler looked for a way to get around the leader. Third place running Trey Craig moved up on the leaders only to find himself off the backstretch to bring out the caution and Craig to the tail. Stiffler stole the lead on the restart and pulled away with Jared Rupert shooting up to second as Lorance droped to third. Trey Craig was making a great comeback from the tail as he was third with eight laps to go. Craig then took second and set his sights on leader Stiffler with five laps to go but Stiffler held on for the win with Trey Craig second trailed by Jared Rupert, Corey Duser and Matthew Lorance.
Former sport stock feature winners Ron Lewis and Joe Hensel made up the frnt row of the sport stock feature with Lewis surging ahead  and last weeks winner James Harding. Harding moved to the outside of Hensel just as Hensel lost it on turn two and spun and was sent to the tail. Harding pulled alongside of Lewis on the restart as they diced for the lead. Back and forth they swapped the lead as Shawn Stansell moved to third followed by fast timer Travis digges in fourth as the yellow flew when Brad Worley spun on the frontstretch. Harding set sail on the restart to leave Lewis behind. Back in the field five cars, Stansell, digges, Jay Lakins, John Haney and Hensel were running bumper to bumper.
Harding was on cruise control as he looked for his second straight feature win with six laps to go as the yellow flew again when Digges spun. Harding had little trouble holding onto the lead when the caution flew again when Digges spun to avoid a bobbling John Dunlap. Harding took the win over Lewis as Stansell was third but Hensel and Lakins tangled as they approached the checker and did not cross the line which gave John Haney fourth and Jamie Sites fifth.
Tim Spriggs and Tyler Mahaffey led the field in the compactt feature which had to be restarted before a lap was completed due to a spin. Rookie Mahaffey charged into the lead with Spriggs second and again the yellow flew when Bo Hoelscher spun on the first lap. Mahaffey continued to lead as the veteran drivers behind him were on the move trying to work their way to the front. Second fast timer Bryan Lynch came from eighth to fourth by the halfway marrk and moved into second by lap fifteen. Lynch was reeling in Mahaffey  with Joe Hoelscher running third. Rookie  fifteen year old Tyler Mahaffey in his Affordable Auto Parts machine picked up his first feature win as Hoelscher made a daring move around Lynch for second with Lynch third followed by David Sagers and Tim Spriggs.
Next Friday, May 21, the big full size school buses will invade the Kil-Kare facility for a figure-8 feature and a school bus demolition derby rounding out the nights program. Preceding the school buses the regular Friday night divisions will see action with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
